Several years ago, the Aerospace industry created and released s series of quality management system standards designed specifically for aerospace. These standards have evolved into what is now known as the AS "Trilogy". These aerospace quality system standards are now widely recognized and designed for use in the Aerospace, Space and Defence industries.
These aerospace quality system standards are available for quality system registration and may be required to supply OEMs and suppliers to these OEMs to demonstrate full conformity with the Aerospace, Space and Defence requirements.
AS 9100 - Quality Management System - Aerospace Requirements
Released November 2004, AS 9100 defines the minimum quality system requirements for the aerospace and defence industries. Major Processes include:
- Section 4 - Quality Management System
- Section 5 - Management Responsibility
- Section 6 - Resources Management
- Section 7 - Product and Service Realization
- Section 8 - Measurement, Analysis and Improvement
with additional aeospace requirements added.
AS 9003 - Inspection and Test Quality System
Released October 2001, AS 9003 defined the minimum quality system requirements derived from AS 9100. The purpose of this standard is to "ensure that inspection, conformity and airworthiness of products are maintained" when a full AS 9100 program is not required. Major Processes are based on the previous ISO 9001 revision.
AS 9110 - Quality Maintenance Systems - Aerospace - Requirements for Maintenance Organizations.
Released January 2003, AS 9110 defines the minimum quality system requirements for Maintenance Organizations. Major processes are listed in AS 9100 above with additional requirements for Maintenance Organizations added.
AS 9120 - Quality Systems to Stockist Distributors
Released October 2002, AS 9120 defines the minimum requirements for stockist distributors. Major processes are based on AS 9100 however, the requirements have been tailored for this industry. For example Section 7.3 - Design & Development is not included in these requirements.
